Current Goal

To visit some of the states of amateur radio call area 0, then return home.

About This Item

The district 0a Travel Bug

CQ GeoCache, de W4TQI!

This amateur radio themed Bug is trying to visit a few states to work towards achieving “Worked All States” with Travel Bugs.

Using the amateur radio call districts as a guide, each bug has a goal of visiting just a few states before returning home. This particular bug is trying to visit some of the states in call area number 0:

  • Minnesota
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Iowa
  • (I've divided district 0 into two pieces due to its size)

The bug doesn’t have to visit its destination states in any particular order – it just wants to visit every place on its list. Once it has checked off all the states on its list, this bug should make its way home to the Clang! GeoCache near Frederick, Maryland. (Slight change of plans: As Clang! is no more, we're just trying to get it back to Frederick, MD. We'll go out and pick it up when it gets there.)

If you pick up this Travel Bug, please keep the following points in mind:

    • Please keep this Travel Bug moving! If you do not plan to place it into another GeoCache shortly after finding it, please leave it for another cacher.
    • Please log its travels at the GeoCaching website, using the Travel Bug number on its dogtag and on the front side of this card.
    • Photographs are welcomed in your logs, but please take steps to ensure that the tracking number is not visible in the posted photos.
    • Please do not “drop and grab” this bug in order to keep it in your possession. If you place it in a GeoCache, leave it there for someone else to find.
  • Amateur radio operators often confirm their radio contacts by exchanging “QSL cards” with each other. I’d like to send you one of my own cards as a way to say “thank you” for helping my Travel Bug along its way. Just log your find here, and send me an e-mail with an address to which I can send your card. I'll get it in the mail just as soon as I can!

    Potentiometer

Controlling transmitter power, tuning between stations, or simply adjusting the volume – all of these depend on components whose value can be changed by the operator. This potentiometer, or variable resistor, allows the user to change the amount of resistance to the flow of electricity in a circuit.

Driving from New Orleans to Beaumont on a business trip, showing a couple of newbys the art of geocaching. Imagine my surpise to find a TB that had been through the hands of 5¢, a friend and neighbor.
