Measles is a grizzled old sidekick without a partner, longing for the days of the Old West. He hopes to travel west, visiting (and being photographed with) historical markers along the way.

About This Item

Measles sets off for the Old West.

Measles was created as a tribute to the great character actor, Jack Elam. Elam played in many, many westerns, often as the grizzled sidekick. These roles made him one of the most memorable supporting actors in Hollywood. His success as a character actor has been attributed not only to his near-demented screen persona but also to an out-of-kilter left eye, sightless from a childhood fight.

Measles (like Elam's characters) lives very much in the moment. He feels as much at home around the embers of a dying campfire as he does belly up to the bar, ordering another round of whiskey for his fellow cowpokes. He exhibits great skill at driving a stagecoach, yelling things like "Yah!" and "Howdy!" and bolstering his courage with equal doses of whiskey and freshly baked cookies.

😛 Snagged this little traveller today at the Birds of a Feather event. Hope to get it to a new temp home in a week or so -- it might go to Dayton OH next week or perhaps to a breakfast event.

Found this one while hitting some Rockford caches today. Looks like he has has a pretty rough trip since he is in a few peices in his tube. Will move to another cache soon. TFTB!

My wife's 1st time out with me hunting, she loved it! When we found Measles, we knew would bring him home and feed him before a trip we are taking next week. He will be movong down the trail.

Well, Measles is a little worse for the wear after his visit with me! In fact, he even lost his head at one point! But we were able to do a little emergency surgery and he ended up just fine! :-)

  • Measles at his new digs Brrrr....Measles doesn't mind the cold, though. I think he'll do just fine here. Maybe even get a chance to take in some of the sights in the Land o' Lincoln.
