I want to travel as fast as possible from Stockton, CA to a cache within 10 miles of zip code 78681, Round Rock, TX. I am in a race with three other cars to reach this destination. Each car is co-owned by a grandchild of the owner. My goal is to be the first car to reach Round Rock, TX and be retrieved by my co-owner. I also want to meet many people and visit a variety of interesting places along the way. I want to travel to as many states as possible and cover as much distance as possible, and still reach my destination first. Please post photos of my drivers and pit crews, and people I meet along the way. Please post pictures of the places I visit so I can share my adventures.
I am a red wooden toy race car from the Towe Auto Museum in Sacramento, CA (http://www.toweautomuseum.org) where my owner is a volunteer docent. I am one of four cars released in Stockton, CA in a race to be retrieved by the owner's grandchildren near Round Rock, TX. Each car has a grandchild "co-owner" who will be tracking the car's progress and adventures. My co-owner is the 9 year old grandson of the owner. There are several ways a car can be a winner in this race: 1. The first car to be placed in a cache within 10 miles of zip code 78681. 2. The first car to be retrieved by one of the grandchildren. 3. The car that traveled the most distance on its trip from Stockton, CA to Round Rock, TX. 4. The car that traveled to the most states and countries. 5. The car that was placed in the most caches before reaching its goal. 6. The car that spends the least time in pit stops (caches). The TB numbers of the cars in the race are: TBH8RV TBHGGJ TBHJMK. The pictured 250 GT Spyder California Ferrari model is one of the first Ferrari "driver's cars"— competent race car but more comfortable and luxurious than pure race-bred sports cars. Some of these raced competitively with one car taking 5th place at Le Mans in 1959. (Adler, Dennis. The Art of the Automobile: The 100 Greatest Cars. HarperResource, 2000.)

April 3, 2005-September 10, 2005. So many destinations; So little time. This travel bug traveled over 9000 miles before disappearing in Fargo, ND. Hopefully a young person is enjoying the car somewhere but it now officially rests in the pit stop on the web in the Travel Bug Graveyard. R.I.P.

😮 😡 😟 Bad news from Fargo, North Dakota. Andrew's car was forced into the wall and vaporized upon impact—or perhaps it's flux capacitor was activated and it is traveling through time to reappear somewhere else. On August 29 Cacher farmkid dropped two TB's in the Fargo-Moorhead Bug-Tel West cache and reported "I note that there were no other travel bugs lodged at the BugTel when I arrived." September 10 Cacher sliderb reports "In a ziplock bag, there is a laminated "... Andrew's Ferrari" printout in the cache. There is no "Travel Bug", toy or anything else in the bag, just the paper."
A replacement car will join the race soon.
