Current Goal

Mulberry Elementary students are hoping that their travel bugs will travel throughout the country, so that they can track the bugs on the computer. The students also want to learn about the history of other small American towns as compared to theirs.

I moved this bug to Modern Marvel from spillway bikers (Looks like Spillway Monkeys was never approved - yet?). But I forgot to write down the tracking number... Modern Marvel is a located at the business end of the spillway, so a good educational experience...

I am retrieving this TB to help it along. I printed the bug page and will include it along with the tag & whistle in a fresh ziplock. That way, subsequent finders will be able to read its mission while in the cache.

I live in Kenner, LA which is about the 5th larges town in LA so it really doesn't fit your small town stereotype. But I will try to get some photos of it in downtown New Orleans, which once was a small town.

UPDATE - Just to give your class an upate of the travels of this travel bug. Right now, the bug is on an offshore oil platform. the coordinates are 29.34.8 N and 89.07.1 W This will give you a close idea as to where your bug is.

The area is just north of Breton Island off of the coast of Louisiana. This area is famous for the Breton National Wildlife refuge. At one time, it was the largest breeding ground of Brown Pelicans in the United States. The water depth is approx. 20 ft.

Ivan, the recent hurricane to devistate the coast, passed just East of here. There was major damage to the barrier islands in this area. Nature has a way of rebuilding these islands and hopefully in a few years they will be nice and big again.

Out here on the oil platform, we produce oil and gas to help supply the worlds energy needs. My job is as a Paramedic. I'm here to provide safety and medical protection just in case an employee would get hurt.

Next week, i will bring "the bug" back in to shore and deposit him in a cache that is frequently visited. From there I hope "Mr. Whistle" (since I added the whistle to the chain) travels to some very interesting places.

Ive attached a picture of the oil platform the bug is on !

Hey kids, this bug is on its way to a wonderous journey around the country! Good luck and keep track of it !!!!!

PS I added a bright orange whistle to the chain so if it would get dropped, someone could find it easily find it !!
