Current Goal

August 3, 2010:  It's time for this bug to come home.  I moved to Washington state and would like to to return to a nearby cache, anything around zip code 98862.  I'll create a cache for it's return.  I realize it is never likely to resurface, but that is it's mission now...Mike

My 2003 Cedar Fire Bug is my first bug and was placed into my first cache on the first anniversary of the worst fires in California history. It will begin it's journey .75 mile from where my home once stood. Fire Bug's goal is to generate an email from anyone who takes my Fire Bug for a ride and tell me if you were affected by the California Wild Fires of 2003 and how it affected you.

About This Item

Front Side of Melt # 1 Swag

Placed into my Cedar Fire 2003 cache (GCKXQY) on October 26, 2004 at 0620 hours and tagging along, is a "Melt" travel buddy, a cut from the larger piece of melted aluminum of a wheel from my Honda Civic. These are special art forms that many fire victims have come to prize. The larger piece is hung on the side of my temporary home. There are also 6 more original Melts with keychains in this cache as of this morning (10-26-2004) More information is available at my Geocaching support site: http://www.otwc.net/geo and/or http://www.otwc.net/geo/cedarfire2003 Email Mike at: cedarfire2003TB@otwc.net

Wow, this piece is amazing.
Was at my cache this morning and K-Nic strolled up. He wanted to place it in the cache but wouldn't fit, so I swapped a Jeep TB with him.
Will e-mail a story and pass it along soon...

I'd appreciate a photo of this bug and it's bud. In my haste to get this cache out on time, I released it before snapping a pic.

Please upload it here or Email it to me.

Thanks...Mike

It has been over a year since I have logged any travel bugs, but this was one I just had to grad. Middle Earth in MTRP is one ass kicker of a climb so I figured I would reward my self with this special Travel bug. It is very hard for me to realize that this was part of a Honda Civic.
I was not directly affected by the fires nor could I ever know what the last year of your life has been like. I will keep this bug moving north. Thanks for your heartwarming story.

This is a neat idea! I wish I had thought to save some from our Scripps Ranch home on Pinecastle Street that was also destroyed by the Cedar Fire. The rims from my wife's car were also reduced to a puddle of melted aluminum as were all of my 75+ "Copy" TB tags. I turned the chunk found in bag #2 into an Instant TB. I have a couple "Cedar Fire" themed caches already, so I won't elaborate too much more here. I hope you check out WR View-Of-The Fire Multi-Cache-Reincarnated (GCA3BB), Scripps View-Resurrected (Cedar Fire) (GCA4BE), and One Year Later.... (GCKPZW).
