Catholic Mission Rosary II wishes to visit as many Catholic churches, cathedrals and basilicas throughout the world as possible! In the course of its exploits, it would (if possible) like to:
- Be photographed in or at the church
- Be prayed on
- Be blessed by a priest
- Be touched to relics
- Be exposed to the Blessed Sacrament
This Travel Bug is of interest to anyone who likes to travel and visit churches (not just Catholics! See the FAQ below).
A Rosary is simply an arrangement of beads used by Catholics (and many other religions, although by different names) to assist in the counting of prayers. Fingers touch the beads in a particular order while meditating on specific mysteries of the Christian faith. Certain prayers are repeated, while the fingers keep track on the beads. A Mission Rosary is a special kind of Rosary relating to the missionary nature of the Christian faith. The colours of the beads relate to the different regions of the globe where the faith is preached:
- Red – Americas
- Green – Africa
- White – Europe
- Blue – Oceania
- Yellow - Asia.
An information sheet on how to pray using a Rosary is available for free download here:
http://www.newadvent.org/library/rosary.pdf
A more complete (but rather academic!) history of the Rosary is available here:

The first person to log the travel bug in each of five regions identified with the beads will have their own hand-made mission rosary mailed to them at no charge, should they wish one!
The "First to Log" at a church is the five regions (and recipients of a free rosary) are:
- Americas (red) -
- Africa (green) -
- Europe (white) -
- Oceania (blue) -
- Asia (yellow) -
Catholic Mission Rosary FAQ:
Q. I am not a Catholic or even a Christian – should I take this Travel Bug?
A. Sure, why not? Lots of people visit great looking cathedrals, mosques and temples while traveling - regardless of their own personal faith.
Q. May I take Catholic Mission Rosary to visit non-Catholic places of worship?
A. I don’t see why not. Just be respectful of the places of worship being visited and be sure not to offend local customs or preferences. Please be respectful at all times of others and their beliefs.
Q. May I pass this Bug along to a friend/relative who is going abroad and will visit churches?
A. Sure! Use the opportunity to introduce them to geocaching and have them drop it off in a cache there, or bring it back home where you can log its exploits as reported to you. Your call!
