Current Goal

Fly with Albatross to New Zealand and explore this wonderful country. Having seen South and North Island and all the different beautiful places come back to Europe to a cache near the world-famous Karlstein Castle (30 km from Prague) in the Czech Republic where Saman one of the most active Czech caching buddies and initiatior of the first Czech Geocoin may find you and send you out with a new goal.

About This Item

Thick coins have never been a legal tender in the Bohemian Kingdom. They have been given away to other Royal Courts to demonstrate the fabulous wealth of Bohemia and Charles IV (1346 -1378). A visit to the historic Karlstein Castle should be a must for all visitors to the Czech Republic.
These Coins have been minted in gold with a thickness up to 12 mm for representation purposes only. The artwork reflects the “Prager Groschen” (penny of Prague) and the “Dukat” the real legal tender in those days.

This coin is a brass replica of an original Thick Coin only. The period of the “Prager Groschen” was followed by the “Taler” which was minted in Jachymov from 1518 to 1892. Quite big and made from pure silver with a weight of up to one ounce (27,2 g). The Spanish name for the “Taler” was “Dolera” which is the origin of the name of the “Dollar”.

What a great idea for a travel bug.

It is a shame that we did not know the owners name when we collected this because the next cache that we found was called " Ode to an Albatross".

Your coin is now down on the South Coast near Lyme Regis.

Will move it to a cache soon.
