The mission of this “Travel Bug” is to carry this book to those who would like to read or share a story about a “Real American Hero”. It needs to stay in the United States of America for Americans.
I am tired of the regular news in the papers and on television. They sensationalize the negative in the world. The more horrid the news, the more publicity it gets.
It is time we all take a look in a more positive direction. Everyday, somewhere, a person does something good for someone else. This act is done not for ecognition or compensation but because it was needed. In the eyes of others looking on, it may be a small gesture or one of ultimate sacrifice. It is not the size of the act or sacrifice delivered, but the fact the effort was extended that makes it “Great”. I would like to collect the stories of the “Real American Heroes” of our everyday life. Please take a few minutes and share a story or two. The stories do not need to be current.
Please try to place this Travel Bug in caches that are dry and secure. It is more important for it to be in the hands of a “cacher” to read and add stories to, than to be filling a “quota” of Travel Bugs in a cache. The Rat had raved so much about this travel bug that I grabbed it before it even hit the bottom of the cache. I haven't read any stories yet, but I will before I move it along and report back on the next log.

I don't normally trade items but this TB was so moving that I had to finish reading it. Despite not having a backpack and the terrain being high for this one, I decided it had been up in this cache too long - 8 months. It deserves to be moved along so others can share the great stories it contains. Burt, thank you for placing such an original and touching TB in circulation. I added my story - of my neighbor Gene who raised from poverty to a position of wealth and yet is so humble and kind to all, served in the marines in WWII, and most recently waited on his stroke-stricken wife for years hand and foot until her dying day and called himself the luckiest man alive. It will be hard to find a full-sized cache for this close by, but the cache it was in, A Grassy Knoll, while wonderful, is too remote to give this the circulation it should have.
