For those of you that are Ghost hunters, at N49.888123, W97.136913, the Fort Garry Hotel sits as a national historic site. Since 1913, this former Grand Trunk Pacific Railway hotel has stood as a symbol of Winnipeg's importance as a North American transportation hub and of the prairie city's affinity for old world elegance. One of Winnipeg's most prestigious landmarks, the Fort Garry is now in its 10th decade. In recent years, this grand hotel has enjoyed an unparalleled renaissance, winning new admirers and accolades from patrons and guests as the hotel approaches its 100th year on Broadway.
There are many ghost stories surrounding the hotel, but none more vivid than that of room 202. A woman is said to have taken her life in Room 202 of the hotel, upon learning that her newly married husband had been killed in an automobile accident. An alternative take on the story have both the husband and wife being murdered in the hotel itself. However, the stories lack actual evidence to back them up. The hotel was the scene of a fire in 1971 that was located on the seventh floor between the two ballrooms, but even that was quickly contained and repaired. Regardless, there are plenty of ghostly tales of spirits still roaming the halls to this day.
