Joe is now visiting the cache hidden at the Chippewa Township Fire Department in Doylestown, Ohio.
He had just came off a fire call when we met up with him. Fortunately it was a false alarm so we were all smiles. He did a bit of a workout to use up that adrenaline that he had built up from the call. (He didn't want to have any cardiovascular problems in the future.)
We hung out for a bit down at the barbecue outside the station. Man can Joe eat those ribs! He must have had 3 slabs! He also had about 4 ears of corn with a big 'ol pike of okra. Joe eats because he needs those calories for his job! He works hard but he plays hard too!
After the BBQ we went geocaching. Joe was FTF on the second cache of the day. Man he was cocky. You should have seen him. He had such a swagger in his step. "Look at me. I am the geocaching man!" He didn't say it, but we all knew that he was thinking it. Secretly we were all jealous though. How can someone be that good?
After the eighteenth geocache we took Joe back to the station. Chief Browning had a few words for Joe. It must have been positive. When Joe came back he was as nice as could be. Not one word about how much better he thought he was. The chief must have served him some of that humble pie. Whatever the chief said, it was nothing but positive. We couldnt get enough of Joe after that. What a great guy!
We decided to part ways with Joe after that though. He said he needed to meet up with the next group of cachers as he needed to find another fire station to visit. He really enjoyed all the folks at the CTFD but it was time to move on. We snapped this picture of Joe outside the station.
We agreed that this may be the best thing to do as "branch jumper" was excited to get him moving along. Joe said he had sent a postcard to BJ in WV, but i didn't see him send it. Either way we strolled back to the cache and said our goodbyes. The kids were sad to see him go though. Not a dry eye could be found. Joe was so sweet about it though. He told the kids "This isn't the end, this is only the beginning." Then he cracked a joke and things were better.
Joe stepped into the cache and asked us to close it up before he changed his mind. He liked this little town, Doylestown. It had the white picket fences, corner store and the ice cream stand just like he dreamt of growing up. He knew he had to go though. BJ in WV sent him on a mission, and Joe had to follow through with it. We closed it up and as we walked away we heard Joe singing "cause I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again..." All we could do was smile.
We're really going to miss Joe. He was one in a million. See ya around Joe.
