About This Item

Minnesota State Parks
Geocaching History Challenge

In 2008 the state of Minnesota turned 150 years old! And in honor of this anniversary the Minnesota State Parks has organized a statewide Geocaching History Challenge. With 72 state parks there is plenty to keep you busy hunting for caches and moving travel bugs across the state, not to mention the great hikes, photo-worthy views and untouched landscapes you can find along the way to each cache.

Each of Minnesota’s 72 state parks has a special Geocaching History Challenge cache. Inside each cache are collectable park history trading cards and, if you’re lucky, a Minnesota Sesquicentennial medallion.

You can even earn a special silver medallion when you locate all of the state park caches in a region. A total of four regional medallions can be earned.

For those true geocachers who find all 72 Minnesota State Park caches – they can earn a really special gold medallion!

For more information on the Minnesota State Park Geocaching History Challenge visit www.mnstateparks.info.

The Minnesota State Park Geocaching History Challenge will run through December 31, 2008 – so start geocaching!!

Got to Lake Bronson State Park at dusk last night so we decided to camp here. Mr. Myre thought it was neat to hear some wolves howling in the night. It got down to 34 degrees last night so it was a little nippy on the nose but the sleeping bags were toasty. We could hear some sand hill cranes off in the distance this morning. Lake Bronson is a great park with some of the best examples of what the CCC did for the state parks of Minnesota.

Old Mill is really a nice state park. Too nice of a park to be empty on a Sunday afternoon. This was our third visit to this park that is 325 miles NW of our home. (As the crow flies that is.) We were here in 9/03 and again in 5/05 and enjoyed the park both times. Someday we are going to have to visit when the swimming hole is filled! We enjoyed chatting with an older gentleman who was winterizing the steam engine on the old mill.

Hope Mr. Myre enjoyed visiting the Red River SRA and seeing what they have done with an area that was flooded several years ago. Lots of changes since we were here the first time. Even a hiking club trail has been set up since our second visit in May 2005. There is quite a dike system here now and they have developed the area with miles of biking and hiking trails. It's a great way to use the area. Maybe they should look into doing something like this with New Orleans???

Retrieve It from a Cache 9/6/2008 dlgps retrieved it from Buffalo River State Park History Challenge Minnesota   Visit Log

Buffalo River State Park is one of our favorite parks! We hope this TB enjoyed the visit as much as we did. We were here in 2003 and 2005. Both times in May. Someday we are going to visit when the swimming pool is filled! :o)

One thing we always remember about this park is the informational sign about oxbows in rivers. The sign asks which side of the oxbow does the water run faster - the inside of the curve or the outside of the curve? Look it up!!! It is interesting!

Enjoyed having this little trackable with us while we visited Glendalough State Park. Lots of history here! We have been here two other times. In May 2003 we hiked the hiking club trail and in March of 2006 we came back and stayed in one of the camper cabins to celebrate D's Birthday. We had an extra treat today...both a bald eagle and a pileated woodpecker flew over us while we were in the park.
