About This Item

Cinco de Mayo! The Fifth of May is my birthday, a distinction I share with such cultural giants as beloved entertainer Karl Marx and political philosopher Tammy Wynette. This year, my birthdate — today! this minute! — is 05/05/05 (and no, I am NOT 55, thanks for asking). This cries out for a special commemoration.

I was going to do a 5/5 cache, but then realized I'm lazy and old. Someone suggested I visit 05º00.000 -05º00.000, but that's a spot in the ocean just off the Côte d'Ivoire, so I'm pretty sure I couldn't've gotten back in time for work tomorrow. Finally, out of sheer lameness and lack of imagination, I decided to release five Travel Bugs in the shape of 5's. I've just run around and plonked them in caches, and now to activate them quick before anyone snags them. Then -- on to the party!

So...take Exit 5 and see what adventures you have. Dial 555-1212 and ask if the nice lady if she has Prince Albert in a can (then ask her if she has any idea who Prince Albert was and why something named after him might be in a can). Party like it's 05/05/05. Awww, shoot...I don't care what you do with them. Move 'em around, take a picture, share this special day in the Life of Weasel. Fly, my pretties!

About this Five: I Saw the Figure Five in Gold was one of the most famous paintings of the 20th Century. Charles Demuth painted it in 1928, inspired by the poem "the Great Figure" written by his friend William Carlos Williams. This painting is said to foreshadow the coming of Pop Art. Feh! I hated the lot of 'em. So! Take this pretentious wankeuse to the opera, or to a gallery, or...well, or go do something fun instead. Happy birthday to me!

I'm sorry; my bad. I did indeed retrieve this bug from the cache (with the owner's kind assistance). So the bug I released in 5/5/05 went around the world a couple of times and found me 2,500 hundred miles from where I left it. Thanks to everyone who handled this thing and helped see it home!

Hang on, little five! I'm trying to get there! Thanks so much to Harris32 for getting my TB within striking range. I'm not far away, if only I can hitch a ride...

Just checking on the cache, I have to walk by it regularly, so a quick look in is always tempting! Found this rather large '5' TB, hence the log...

That is awesome! I couldn't believe it when this thing popped up on my birthday! I released this in Rhode Island on 5/5/05, it went all over everyplace, and here it is seven years later setting down close to where I live now, in Sussex. Sure would love to see this move a little closer south (hint, hint).

My 5th cache of the day on 5/5 so seemed like the most appropriate time & place to drop it off. Happy Birthday to AuntieWeasel :)
