This Greek Eye comes from Olympia in Greece. Olympia is one of the World Heritage Sites which you can find on UNESCO's World Heritage List on http://whc.unesco.org/en/list. The goal of this Greek Eye is to visit as much World Heritage Sites as possible. Please help it to find a cache at or near a WHS. We realize that this won't always be possible, in that case please just help it on its way. Photos with the eye at World Heritage Sites are also welcome. Thank you.
Greek Eyes are believed to ward off evil and evoke good luck. According to an old superstition, people may be cursed by an "Evil Eye", that is why these glass eyes are popular gifts to protect people. So if you help it to move on you should be protected as well.
About World Heritage
The World Heritage List currently includes 981 properties forming part of the cultural and natural heritage which UNESCO's World Heritage Committee considers as having outstanding universal value. Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. Places as unique and diverse as the wilds of East Africa’s Serengeti, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Baroque cathedrals of Latin America make up our world’s heritage. What makes the concept of World Heritage exceptional is its universal application. World Heritage sites belong to all the peoples of the world, irrespective of the territory on which they are located. (Source: website UNESCO)
