This little bear is from Northern Lower Michigan where the winters are long, and the few weeks of summer are highly anticipated. He's bummed to have broken his arm just as the days are getting warm and lengthening. Bear needs some encouragement and maybe a change of scene. That's why we're sending him on this little vacation...with your help, of course. When you bump into Bear along his travels or see him hitchhiking with his RIGHT thumb in the air, pass along a good idea for one-armed summertime activities and then pass him along to the next destination... maybe we'll get him out of this funk yet.
This bear was a gift from my Mom back in 1997 when I broke my arm falling off a trampoline and having an unfortunate run-in with the ground. Then this spring while mountain biking by herself, my Mom collided with a snowmobile barrier and found herself in a similar predicament. Left arm encased in a purple cast, and her plans to kayak, garden, and bike her way through summer looking unacheivable. Suddenly my usual "roll-with-the-punches" mother was feeling down for the count.... frustrated.... bummed. Just like Bear, she needs a little encouragement and some ideas for interesting summertime fun (Geocaching anyone!?). I'm giving this bear back to her after all these years in the form of a Travel Bug... to tell her that I'm glad she's okay, that broken bones mend, and maybe to remind her that she could've broken her ~head~ alone there on the trail, instead of just her arm. Love you, Mom... Happy Birthday.
