Current Goal

To 'fly' to as many events and places where my brethren temporarily are staying.
I will be 'leaving the nest (The Ugly Duckling-GCP3KX). I would like to come back home in a year or so- to Ugly Duckling Redux -GC16AFB(like a real migration!) Then be off again! Please upload a picture of me with my family in the background during my travels. Thanks! Happy travels to you and yours!

Note: Ugly Duckling Redux is on Berry College.WMA(Wildlife management) has taken over the 'grounds' and do not want caches. Talks are under way. This one may be resurrected. If not, pick a cache in Rome,GA. for the bird to come back and visit! Thanks all! :)

About This Item

THE MUTE SWAN

This species of bird is found naturally mainly in temperate areas of Europe across western Asia as far east as the Russian maritimes. Mute Swans arrived in Alaska across the Bering Strait. It is migratory throughout the northern latitudes in Europe and Asia, as far south as north Africa. and in the Mediterranean. It is known and recorded to have nested in Iceland and is a vagrant to that area, as well as to Bermuda according to the U.N. Environmental agency.
In America, it migrates in the Saskatchewan area, across the Hudson's Bay over the Great Lakes into the States, dispersing there through the mid continent. Interior swans must often migrate to mid Atlantic coastal locations when lakes freeze over, returning to their nesting area when the lakes open. Mute swans have been gracing our rivers and streams since Colonial Days.. They have also been introduced into the US, sometimes as gifts from the Royal Family of Great Britain, to Lakeland, Florida, for example.
