To travel to far off lands, and have pictures posted of some of the scenery, and architecture of the places it visits, would love to see it make it to some castles in Europe. Please keep it going. Thanks King Ed
This coin is the first one of what I’m calling the “King Ed Geocoins”.
The coin idea and design was originally going to be used for a game I’m working on making. The game will be a cross of the classic “Risk” board game and the old fantasy “Dungeons and Dragons” game. But with cast 28mm Napoleonic figures for the armies and coins instead of cards to buy more troops. The plans for the game board (table) are about 5’ x 10’ and will be able to swap out the maps for different battle grounds. Then after discovering Geocaching from a co-worker, I thought it would be fun to use them as Geocoins also.
The coins are homemade and cast with a lead free pewter, some will be gold plated, silver plated or painted. I had the mould made locally by a guy that does some machine work out of his garage. I’m still trying to perfect the casting process, so some coins do have some imperfections. The Coins have 3 phrases in Latin, which I got the translations from the website www.yuni.com/library/latin.html. The phrases pretty much worked for both Geocaching and the game and that’s why they were chosen.
"A mari usque ad mare" - From sea to sea (Motto of Canada)
"Veni, vidi, vici" - I came, I saw, I conquered. (Julius Caesar)
"A Deo et Rege" - From God and the King
The Coin Names are created from the names of my son and nephews that helped me place them. This will make it more personal for them and more fun for them to track.
I know the coins are pretty basic and nothing compared to the professionally minted ones, but hope they will serve their purpose. I’m looking forward to tracking their travels with my son and nephews which I have gotten interested in Geocaching.
Thanks, King Ed
