About This Item

Pau Lope

Pau Lope - It doesn't just last... it lasts beautifully. This extremely hard and dense decking material resists decay and insects naturally, meaning no preservatives. With minimal care, Pau Lope maintains it's rich, smooth texture and warm colors. Left to itself, Pau Lope will fade to a fine silver color and resist scarring, wear and twisting. The wood sample is finished with shellac.

Pau Lope is currently resting comfortably in the Paddlehiker workshop after a knot-so-boring night at the CCC #3. Providing this handsome chunk of wood doesn't fall hopelessly in love with the curly maple, sitka spruce, ebony, or other woods in this violin den, he'll be on his way to the next shop pronto.

Projects made with Pau Lope.

  • Sam's Deck. Sam enjoys lying on the deck, getting sun, or rolling in the snow. He is thinking maybe he should grab the TB "Julius". I did not apply any finish to the deck so it has weathered to a gray color. It turns a dark reddish-black when it is wet.
  • Flytying Vise Base One of the projects made from my left over deck wood. Because of the weight of the Pau Lope is makes a sturdy and attractive base for my vise. Not as heavy as a metal plate but almost! Weight = 4.5 lbs.
