About This Item

Swedish Chef

One of Jim Henson's Muppet characters, a fine cook and great company.
Whatever you do, do not criticise his cooking!

Autobugography
The Muppets were devised by Jim Henson in America in the 1950's, half marionette and half glove puppet, hence the name. They eventually found their way onto the children’s educational series “Sesame Street” after ten years of intermittent appearances on American TV.
Fame struck when Lew Grade financed the production of The Muppet Show in Britain. In each show the Muppets would perform a variety show in front of a live audience, with Kermit the Frog as Master of Ceremonies. Supporting Kermit was a large cast of weird animal and humanoid performers and stage-hands.
A host of famous stars appeared in the show and there were some great musical numbers.

The Swedish Chef was voiced by Jim Henson himself.

Rachie and I picked up the chef soon after he was left in the cache. Rach had never met a travel bug before so was v.excited. We had a brilliant dinner that night: Tortelloni filled with ricotta and olives in a tomato and marscapone sauce with roasted vegetables. Cheers Swedish Chef, you can come to dinner again!
