About This Item

AMTG Lapu Lapu GC 1

Large coin with a lot of heft. Unusual shape and excellent 3-D work. Top has a pass through for a chain. Front medallion is all metal and 3-D work. The background metal texture is brushed. The figure is of a warrior with sward and shield. The rim is done in matte enamel and has raised 3-D metal script. It reads "Philippines 1998 Germany 2008". The reverse is simple brushed metal with raised script. It says "N49 05.995 E009 40.885 Lapu Lapu Germany Geocaching since 2007". Euro coin. A very nice coin. ----------------- Coin info: Lapu-Lapu is the name of the chieftain of the native Philippinos who is told to have killed the Portuguese captain Ferdinand Magellan in a battle between the natives and the Spanish colonial soldiers on Mactan island in April 27, 1521. Therefore Lapu-Lapu is regarded as the first National hero of the Philippines. Beside this the Philippinos don't take this too serious. A tasty fish living in the sea around Mactan island is also called Lapu-Lapu by the natives.

The coin shows Lapu-Lapu on his monument in Lapu-Lapu-City on Mactan Island, Philippines.

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.
