Crinoid is part of our children's science fair project. The travel bug will start its journey in Oklahoma and hopefully make it to a geocache located near our home in Utah. We have not set up our geocache yet. To help move the travel bug along we have attached crinoid stems to it and wish to give one to each helping hand along the route.
Crinoids are small fossils and are somewhere between 250 and 400 millions old. The crinoids (stems) that we have attached to our travel bug are found near Ardmore Oklahoma. The crinoids are round, about the diameter of a nickle or quarter, and about 1/4" thick. They are a dull orange color and have a small opening in the middle. These are the stems of the crinoids and filtered out microcopic food from the ocean. They have made great science fair projects or show and tell items. We have additional and more technical information upon request.
