This pack goes with me everywhere I hike and cache.
Update - 2-20-14
I added a smaller day/overnight pack, a Gregory. It too will serve to carry my dry goods, cache stuff, snacks, water, etc.
Update - 11-3-12 - Sadly, last week, the old camelbak, which sat inside my car, was kidnapped. Along with the stuff in it. I hope at least it gets sold to a hiker and they continue its journey. I have since replaced my stolen gear which will be my companion on many hiking and caching journeys to come. I am leaving the original entry below since the internal contents are generally the same.
This pack goes with me everywhere I hike and cache. Inside it is survival items for my well being even survivorman and bear grylls would envy ;-)
So why do I carry all this stuff? Well, it is not so much getting lost anymore (i used to off trial hike without gps's) but the places I go, if I get injured and cannot get out fast enough, this pack has everything I should need to help me out. I also use my bug to promote safety while hiking. Bringing attention to it hopefully may cut down the number of injuries or deaths that occur simply because someone is not prepared. So please, do lilke the boyscouts say - Be Prepared!
So what is in it? Its always changing, adding new items, using or losing others, but I try to keep a good inventory of survival items. Besides having a 3 liter water bladder here is the list:
Dry clothing items
Rain gear (poncho and rain pants)
Katadyn Microfilter waterbottler
Firstaid kit
Flint and striker
Emergency Shelter/two-person solar blanket
backup gps (etrex legend)
lots of batteries
Headlamp
Triangle area trial maps (NC)
Trees and critters ID lamanents
Leatherman tool
cito type stuff
food
And I carry along my David O'Neal (local flute maker) Native American G cedar flute.
