Current Goal

Whitebeard wants to find his mutinous crew, Pirates of the Caribbean, regain their allegiance, then together return to the Treasure of Skeleton Swamp to hide any treasures they plunder along the way. But can they ever reunite and travel together after such a rift has developed between them, both in distance and in loyalty? Whitebeard knows the odds are slim, and there are many dangers he will encounter while on his quest. But he is counting on people like you to help him along the way. He knows that with your help he has one big advantage. You can click on the link above and see where the pirates are anchored right now.

Of course Whitebeard is primarily interested in seeing exciting places all around the world and getting some photos of his adventures to go into his journal.

About This Item

Whitebeard and his treasure map

Whitebeard is the notorious pirate that hid the fabled Treasure of Skeleton Swamp

A few months ago his treacherous crew set sail without him. The mutiny was planned four months ago in the nearby Hollywood Islands, and on the 1st of March, the rebellious pirates left the coast of Florida to pillage and plunder the Western Caribbean. Only days later, on Cozumel Island they heard rumors of a big beer party near Toronto, and without their guiding captain, sailed non-stop to Lake Ontario. At that bash they got wind of another, so they bar-hopped over there and ushered in the vernal equinox while carousing with reckless abandon. After that the inebriated pirates had no idea how they ended up on the other side of the continent, (nor did they care) in British Columbia on Vancouver Island. Who knows where on earth the "Pirates of the Caribbean" will show up next?

Now that Whitebeard has hidden his treasure well, he is leaving it unguarded, and going off alone in search of his mutinous crew.

Another piratical quest for Whitebeard, who never turns down a challenge.

Dropped Off 7/14/2017 sunnyside7 placed it in YAR! (A pirate flash mob) Illinois - 13.52 miles  Visit Log

A pirate flash mob? Whitebeard didn't want to be left out.

When Whitebeard heard I was going Island Hopping he insisted on coming along. He doesn't get out much. I wonder if he's thinking of burying more treasure?
He hasn't given up the hope of finding his wayward crew, the "Pirates of the Carribean." They've recently shown up in Spain, sharing Christmas dinner with a group of geocachers in Barcelona. Right now they are sailing with the Pirates of Poblenou. Will they ever find their way back home to the Hollywood Islands? Or should Whitebeard risk another dangerous voyage in hopes of meeting up with them, who knows where or when?

  • Whitebeard says "lets cross here"
  • pirates never walk a straight line it must be the rum?
  • the log book is here... but who took the treasure?
  • another pirate rule... never go back the same way you came

Fun times at Navy Pier today. Jeanne and I came to see Jenni, Kylie and Mia perform at a flash mob. Also meeting us there was Jeff, Ken and Jimmy were there too. Also meeting us there was Jeanne's friend and her friends friend.
Great moment, after everyone finally met up, and found out where the mob was supposed to be.
Afterwards we enjoyed ourselves at the Beer Garden for while, then walked it off to the end of the pier.

  • I think I see...
  • Pirates!
  • Aarrrgh!
  • Could it really be them?? For a minute Whitebeard thought he had finally found his long lost crew...but alas, upon closer inspection he could see they were not his pirates. Aargh!

After a long and mysterious hiatus, Whitebeard was back in his element today!

Aarrgh! This cache has been on my "must do" list ever since it came out, and this turned out to be the perfect day to do it. Jeanne and I were going downtown to meet up with half a dozen close family members, three of whom were to perform at a flash mob. The fact that currently the cache was "not all there" was not going to stop us. So I took a pill bottle and filled it with a log sheet and just a little "pirate treasure" (but no pencil), planning to place it if we were successful at finding the hiding spot.
But once at the starting coords, we just had to stop at the stone faced building (five years since we've been there) and take a quick trip around the world. A few minutes later we were following the north star and doing some serious swashbucklin'.
We loved the way the hints and locations blended in with the story. It all made sense. At every stage we knew we were on the right track, so it was smooth sailin' with only a little bit of head scratchin'. At last we saw the final leg of our journey in front of us, and as anticipated, the unseasonably cool weather had kept nearly all of the muggles away. We got to GZ and I looked around a bit, then placed the cache in what I thought was the best spot to hide it. Not to confuse anyone, but when your swashbucklin' is near the end, there may be a tiny bit of bushwhackin' to be done.
Hours later it dawned on me that while focused on hiding the cache, I think I forgot to sign the log sheet. Oh well, the CO thanked me for replacing the cache and said I should log it. And I say thanks for setting up this most enjoyable letterbox cache. Aarrgh! 🤕

  • the game is afoot
  • what letter are we looking for?
  • we're on the right track
  • be careful crossing here
  • Whitebeard ready to hide the treasure
  • I'm right behind you
  • I found my niche
  • it's out of our hands now... who will find it?
Visited 7/28/2013 sunnyside7 took it to Stone Faced Illinois - 11.01 miles  Visit Log

Before starting our treasure hunt, Whitebeard was intrigued by all the stones from exotic places. Had to stop browse a bit.

  • Black Hawks were everywhere
  • weren't we just there?
Grab It (Not from a Cache) 7/28/2013 sunnyside7 grabbed it   Visit Log

Well look who just came out of the closet this morning...if it isn't Whitebeard himself! 😮 We'd given him up for dead years ago. He must have gotten wind of the treasure hunt we were about to go on today.
Well, his dog tag does have "COPY" engraved on it, so maybe he's just the Son of Whitebeard, but he certainly looks like the real deal.😉 And he has that same look of adventure in his eye. We better bring him along, he may be of some use to us on our quest of the treasure chest.

It's too bad, Whitebeard appears to have been the victim of high espionage while at the Safe House in Milwaukee. He would have been very happy to know that last month his mutinous crew finally showed up alive and well in Victoria, B.C. after they had been missing for fifteen months and given up for dead. Now perhaps the pirates will someday find their missing captain, either by design or by destiny.

I see the last log sais they picked it up, but they did not log that they retreived only discovered so this is still listed as being in the covert cache and it is not there.
