Current Goal

This little African ellie who was named Nellie would love to travel to as many nature reserves as she possibly can while on route to meeting her cousin the Asian elephant.
To be able to do this she needs your help.

About This Item

The Asian elephant is slighty smaller than its African relatives; the easiest way to distinguish the two is that the Asian elephat has smaller ears.
The Asian elephant has a more arched back compared to the African, one ""finger" at the tip of its trunk as opposed to two, four nails on each hind foot instead of three, and 19 pairs of ribs instead of 21. Asia elephants usually lack tusks and the forehead has two hemispherical bulges, unlike the flat front of the African elephant. Asian elephants are far more agile at using their feet in conjunction with the trunk for manipulating objects and is therefore widely domesticated.

Nellie was happy with her visit at Cow Pat but she can drink only so much milk. She said goodbye to her friends and will be on her way to Pretoria to visit other friends as soon as the reserve make space for her. Sal so 'n bietjie in kwaratyn by my wees maar net vir 'n rukkie. Sy het darm ook 'n Zebra maatjie wat amper klaar is met sy kwaratyn periode. Ons wil tog nie siektes oordra soos malkoei siektes na ander diere toe nie.

We dropped Nellie the Ellie in the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve, at the most beautiful viewpoint ever!

Nellie will enjoy bonding with her African family here, and can rest a while after her travel from KZN! Good luck, Nellie!! Enjoy the rest of your travels around the globe!!

Maybe we will meet again someday...

This is the first Travel Bug I retrieved! I will relocate Nellie the Ellie to another Reserve. What a battle to get this elephant in an Isuzu bakkie :) but with Ulinda's (honey-badger) help we managed eventually!

Ulinda is a new member who will add loads of value to the geocache environment in KZN (South Africa) specifically iSimangaliso.

May Nelllie the Ellie roam freely on the African planes, and taste the wild amarula on her journey to meet her Asian cousin! Hamba kahle!!
