About This Item

Girl Scout Troop 7809 TB

Created by Girl Scout troop 7809 from Sageville, Iowa, this travel bug features a medallion commemorating Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, and the Girl Scout Promise.  Each troop member has also attached an animal character bead with their name to the travel bug chain.

Juliette Gordon Low, from Savannah, Georgia, founded the Girl Scouts soon after meeting the founder of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, Sir Robert Baden-Powell, in England in 1911.  Upon returning to the U.S., Low telephoned a cousin, saying, “I’ve got something for the girls of Savannah, and all America, and all the world, and we’re going to start it tonight!”

On March 12, 1912, Juliette Low registered the first 18 American Girl Guides, bringing together girls of all backgrounds into the out-of-doors to develop self-reliance and resourcefulness.  Girls prepared for traditional homemaking, but also roles as professional women pursuing active citizenship.  Herself deaf, Low encouraged girls with disabilities at a time when they were excluded from many other activities.

Now 3.7 million members strong, Girl Scouts of the USA is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls.

The Girl Scout Promise:  On my honor, I will try to do my duty to God and country, to help other people at all times, and to obey the Girl Scout laws.

Found this TB today and will be more than happy to help it along on its way. I work in WI so as soon as the weather cooperates and I find a suitable cache(have a few in mind), it will have another state checked off.

I love the idea of this travel bug and may have to create one for my cub scouts to start.

Hello Girl Scout Troop 7809. I will place this bug in Illinois for you so it gets it's second state. I love Girl Scouting. I am a troop leader and have 2 daughters in Girl Scouts (one is working on her Gold Award and the other is working on her Silver award) and 2 sons in Boy Scouts (one is an Eagle Scout and the other is working on his Eagle Scout). I hope you enjoy hearing about where this TB goes all over the United States. Enjoy! Keep working on being a good troop that works well together and give your leader a high 5 for being such a great leader for you!! :)
I hope some of you will earn your Gold Award when you get a little older.

p.s. you should also thank MeDoug for helping you with this TB, he's a really great uncle to one of the young ladies in your troop!
