About This Item

The Linotype was an amazing revolution in the printing industry. Rather than assemble each letter of a sentence one at a time, the Linotype created an entire line of type, known as a slug. The metal is mostly lead and was re-melted over and over to create more slugs after printing a newspaper or other printing job.

This slug reads "Munson, Michigan" which is a small community west of Morenci, Mich., and north of Fayette, Ohio. The slug was once used in funeral service folders printed at the Morenci Observer office.
