I'm probably the only American to have Goanna's "Spirit of Place" album. I had the LP when it came out in the 80's, I was 14 then, and was living in a tiny town in the hills of western Massachusetts. The LP that eventually died and was replaced with the CD, now with mp3's.

Fast forward to almost 20 years later I finally got to Australia, I actually went twice. Each time I stayed for the "allowed" 6 months. Having to stand in line to leave the 2nd time, knowing that I wasn't ever going to come back again was hard.

It's been 11 years since I was there. I still remember having a Toohey's Old with friends at Panania RSL, seeing the Angels sing "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again" at Revesby Workers Club, and the smell of the earth and the Spirit of Place that is Australia.
