Current Goal

This little valuable pin would like the World to know that once there was a little Red Cross Chapter that could, on the island of St. Croix. It would like to leave the island for a trip through the Americas and possibly Denmark, and then back to the island for a much needed rest.

About This Item

American Red Cross St. Croix Chapter Pin

The island of St. Croix is the largest of the three islands in the Virgin Islands of the United States. The American Red Cross of St. Croix Chapter was established in 1917, right after the United States purchased the three islands from Denmark (For those that know Water Island, it is part of St. Thomas). The islands were placed in the hands of the U.S. Navy to administer and the Department of Interior were the overseers of the transition from Denmark to the United States as a United States Territory.

This pin was designed by the dedicated volunteers of the St. Croix Chapter and produced as their official pin in the late 90's. In 2006 the St. Thomas and the St. Croix Chapters merged, making the pin obsolete. The now St. Croix Service Center is now the headquarters for the American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands, but the volunteers still feel very proud of their pin and, they haven't forgotten the time they stood alone, as a bustling little Chapter very proud of its Crusian heritage and active Red Cross service. The locals are still very proud of their Chapter's beginnings, but have embraced the merger with the St. Thomas Chapter creating one stronger Chapter for all the Virgin Islands.

The pin depicts one of the many old sugar mills that date back to the early 1800's and the beautiful beaches, sea and sand on St. Croix. The pin would love to travel awhile, returning to the islands someday for a much needed rest.

If you care to send a small donation to this chapter it could use all the help it can get. The island is small with limited resources and a lot of competition from other not-for-profits.
