About This Item

Sputnik 1

The Sputnik program was a series of robotic spacecraft missions. Sputnik 1 launched the first man-made object to orbit the Earth. That launch took place on October 4, 1957. It demonstrated the viability of using artificial satellites to explore the upper atmosphere. In Eastern Europe, "Sputnik" is a synonyme for satellite.

This was an important part of the development of the GPS system.

I found this nice coin and will take it further. Unfortunatly, I do not have the possibility to go to one of the prefered places. But hopefully I can bring it in a good starting position. Good luck!
