10/25/2009 Sputnik 1 coin visited The European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany. Fine!
The Sputnik program was a series of robotic spacecraft missions. Sputnik 1 launched the first man-made object to orbit the Earth. That launch took place on October 4, 1957. It demonstrated the viability of using artificial satellites to explore the upper atmosphere. In Eastern Europe, "Sputnik" is a synonyme for satellite.
This was an important part of the development of the GPS system.

I left the little Sputnik in our TB - Hotel, because it is located at a major traffic artery. Don't get stolen or lost. It was nice to meet you, farewell!
