Retrieve It from a Cache 4/10/2010 southpawaz retrieved it from T824 Table Mesa Arizona   Visit Log

Another heavy hike today, this one set a new record for me of 31 km. I have to get the long ones in before it gets too hot. We visited the second oldest cache in Arizona today. It is located at a point of confluence, which is where the latitude and longitude are even degrees and minutes and seconds are zero.

  • I parked near these bees who guarded my truck
  • Confluence Ace
  • Another cache is hidden in this pile of huge rocks
  • Part of the hike was along New River

Retrieve It from a Cache 4/8/2010 southpawaz retrieved it from Namesake Arizona   Visit Log

Today I did another long hike (about 29 km) to visit this cache placed by the cacher Mule Ears near a rock formation with the same name. Elevation gain for the hike was 1175 meters, whew I think I'll rest today.

  • Looking over towards Mule Ears
  • Mule Ears zoomed view
  • Still lots of snow on nearby Mount Lemmon

Today we visited the spot where MTime rolled over his truck last year. I was surprised he wanted to go back to the scene of the accident, but we did it as a long hike so I was sure I wouldn't roll my truck too.

  • Here's where the truck went over the edge
  • Picketpost Mountain, there's some caches up there

Retrieve It from a Cache 4/3/2010 southpawaz retrieved it from (Another) Maricopa Peak Arizona   Visit Log

Here's a view of the peak from where we started hiking, along with a few other photos. We saw the remains of an old ranch settlement Called Johnson Well along the way, and later in the day we hunted lots of benchmarks and one had some petroglyphs near it.

  • Windmill, water tank and barn (?) at Johnson Well
  • Building foundations at Johnson Well
  • Lizard petroglyph
  • More petroglyphs

Retrieve It from a Cache 3/28/2010 southpawaz retrieved it from CC4 Rest Stop Part Way to Halfway to Somewhere Arizona   Visit Log

The FTF Ace strikes again today. Got three FTFs but it took a 22.5 km hike to get them. Not too much elevation change so it went pretty quickly.

  • FTF Ace strikes again (x3)!
  • Skull Mesa: the Knifeback Ridge There are ruins of ancient indian structures up on the ridge
