Current Goal

I am in a race against "The Hare" once again! This is a test to see if I have retained The lesson I learned on my famous historical victory! (For those geocachers with little cachers in-training I found some neat web links connected to this story.) At (visit link) you and kids can read and listen to a "short version" of this tale. At (visit link) you and kids can read a "story book version." At (visit link) you will find LOTS of activities you and kids can do that again are related to the story.

About This Item

I'm the guy on the left!

"The Hare" and I were released into caches near each other by MaMa Bear. The race begins! Our instructions are to move from cache to cache until the racing deadline - April 23, 2003. The winner is the bug who has moved the farthest from home. But wait that's just the 1st leg of this two-legged race. The second leg is to see who then returns to our home cache "A Tribute to Music and Local Musicians" located near Auburn, NY(zip code 13021), first. PLEASE help me not to forget the POWERFUL lesson that I learned on the first race - PERSEVERANCE WINS THE RACE! (And don't let me become boastful and careless on this race...just because I beat "The Hare before.) Just keep me moving from one cache to the next. Thanks...The Tortoise

MADE IT HOME TO MAMA BEAR - AUG 2004 - MY NEW MISSION IS TO FIND "THE HARE"...PRESENTLY IN THE CARE OF A CALIFORNIA CACHER!

Found him in the Glen Cache when I stopped by to check on what date I signed the log when I found it the first time since I hadn't logged it on line yet. Discovered poor tortoise still stranded in the tree and thought I ought to help him on his way. I'm headed west next weekend and perhaps can get him a bit further toward home. If not I'll release him to a local cache.

  • Checking up on the competition The Tortoise was eager to check on how the hare was doing.
  • Choosing a book He generously offered to read Tarn a story and spent some time selecting just the right book.
  • Getting ready It took a while to get organized.
  • Taran was disappointed I'm afraid Taran was a bit disappointed in the story and wasn't as polite to our guest as I might have wished.
  • Contemplating the lesson But Tortoise spent some time contemplating the lessons he had learned.
