Current Goal

To travel the UK visiting caches near Iron Age or Celtic sites of archaeological interest. Some photos of the places it visits would be great!

About This Item

bronze

This geocoin is based on the design of several actual coins minted in Camulodunum (Colchester) by the Celtic king Cunobolin around the time of the Roman Invasion of Britain. It would be nice if it could travel around the country to appropriate caches.

Found this in Wrong Side of the Tracks (GC1G74A). Emailed current holder but not heard back so I've grabbed it and will dip it in GC1G74A then move it on to an appropriate archaeological site as soon as I can find one. Too bad the only one's in St Albans are all micros.

Discovered by accident. Will be moved a long way soon...

Chose to put Camulodunum here because Wittenham clumps were originally called Sinodun Hills. Sinodun derives from the Celtic Seno-Dunum meaning 'Old Fort'. The earliest earth works here date to late Bronze age & more banks & ditches were added during the early Iron age. Was fun being able to fulfill your request. Had glorious early morning walk with husband & dog in the sunshine, with wonderful views over Oxfordshire.

Here for 2 days showing blue rabbits at suffolk show, so will take this back to Oxfordshire. Already know of a good ancient historic site there for it. Should add aprox 200 miles to its journey.
