1954 painted coin, number one in a second set of four. Take it as far as you can, thankyou.
I do just remember these beautiful coins in circulation just before the decimalisation of the UK currency in 1971. At that time they had a value of 12.5 pence (0.15 of a euro, or 19 US cents). They were first struck in 1549 and were 1/8th of a pound, or two shillings and sixpence. When this example was minted it was actually worth about £2.62 in todays prices adjusted for inflation. That's about 2.89 euros or $4.28 and it would have been the highest value coin in your purse. This coin is part of a set of four found in a shop opposite the British Museum in London, and hand painted to give tham some identity. Thanks to XE currency conversion website and Safalra for their inflation information.
