Current Goal

To travel around Scotland and have pictures taken at the forth bridge and other famous landmarks.

Update 10/1/2006: Thanks to Padawans and the other great UK cachers for helping the coin reach it's goal in just 4 months. It will be released in Australia soon, and it's new goal is to try and make it's way back to me in the Chicago area.

Update 4/14/2010: This traveler is 2 for 2 on completing it's goals thanks to many fellow cachers around the world. I never thought it would make it back to me, but after almost 4 years and a little over 30000 miles it's back home. The fact that I was able to retrieve it from a cache called The Eternal Flame on the same day that Grandma Peg passed peacefully in her sleep makes it even more special. For now it's going to stay with me, but I look forward to hopefully taking it back to Grandma's homeland next year for another trip to her old stomping grounds.

About This Item

Grandma, Kilted Cacher coin, and the forth bridge

My Grandma Peg was born in the small town of Winchburgh (just west of Edinburgh), and is very proud of her Scottish heritage. She moved to the US as a teenager in the late 20's and brought with her this latch hook rug of the forth bridge that her Grandfather made. I would like this geocoin to make it to the forth bridge and have a picture taken of the coin with the bridge in the background.

I finally was able to visit my grandmother's childhood roots today. She would have loved to have been with us today to visit her home town and stop by her first home and a trip into Queensferry to see the Forth bridge.

My wife and I made the short trip down to "The Eternal Flame" today and met Jessmith9 there to pick up the Scottish traveler. This coin made a lot of stops around the world and I'm grateful to have it returned to me on the very same day that grandma passed peacefully in her sleep.

I'd like to thank everyone who helped it along the way.

I hope you don't mind me writing a short note on your coin page but I have a bit of a "well I never" story about this coin..

I regularly use FaceBook and the lady below is one of my FaceBook friends we play games together and chat about Geocaching ect, she sent me a photograph of herself with the coin and asked if I had seen before as it had travelled in the UK, when I looked back on the coins tracking history I found it had been dropped into my Durham Meet on 21 June 2008, it has been in the hands of many Scottish/Co. Durham/UK cachers that I personally know and is now in the hands of a US cacher I talk to on FaceBook, I just think things like this are great!!

I love the story about your Grandma Peg and I wish your little coin good luck on it's journey

We retrieved this Scottish Traveler at the SLM Feed Grains and I'm thinking of a spot that will ensure its travel north. This was the first official geocoin we ever found, so it was an exciting day! I will be sure to log where I put it here in the next couple of days. Want to show it off first.
