Buford Bluefir

Travel the world, experience as much as possible, and meet interesting cachers.

This colorful little fellow is the product of genetics experiments gone awry.

Orphaned at birth, he has spent his entire life – until quite recently – confined in a sprawling research laboratory located in one of Chicago’s Northwest suburbs. Known to the lab personnel merely as Subject #318028, he was injected with a host of chemical concoctions. Then, he was poked and prodded and inspected – day after day, week after week, month after month.

Sadly, when the labmeisters determined that their subject had mutated beyond the point of being of any further scientific use to them, they released him from captivity. Showing little compassion, they ejected him from the research complex in the middle of a late-winter snowstorm. Hopeless and helpless, this little fellow wandered – lost, hungry, homeless – until finally he fainted from exhaustion.

One afternoon, while pursuing their geohobby, a kindly team of cachers found this little guy in a snow bank. They dried him off and took him to their home for some much-needed TLC. They warmed and fed their brightly-colored foundling. They welcomed him into their heart and their home and treated him like a member of their family. They even gave him an appropriate name. Subject #318028 would from now on be known as Buford Bluefir.

Many afternoons for hours on end, while his adoptive family was at work, Buford would watch television to try to learn as much as possible about the strange world in which he now found himself. His mind was reeling with all the intriguing possibilities! After several weeks, he had a heart-to-heart chat with the kindly couple who had rescued him – explaining to them how much he wanted to travel the world and explore all the places he had learned of on TV. So, he made a list of his must-see places, and they agreed to help him on his way, one cache at a time.

Buford Bluefir wants to travel throughout the world – and just take it all in! He particularly would like to explore the Alaskan wilderness, enjoy the excitement of Las Vegas, backpack through Europe, visit the National Parks of the United States and Canada, experience Disney World or Disneyland, and tour the natural wonders of Australia and New Zealand.

So, when you find Buford in a cache, be sure to show him a good time before you send him along on his next travel adventure!
