We braved the train (good) and visited Intramuros, the historic walled city of Manila today. Fort Santiago dates from 1571 and was a lovely, peaceful oasis. It has a terrible history including the deaths of hundreds of Filipinos and POWs during the Japanese occupation in WW2. It’s also home to the Rizal Shrine which holds memorabilia of the Philippine independence hero, Jose Rizal, who was imprisoned here before being executed. And despite this area being so important, we were the first people to log the virtual in over two years. As I said, geocaching is not good here. ☹️

And welcome to The Philippines, officially my new home. Grim caching here - only 94 in a 400km radius. Don’t worry, you are just here for a visit. You are staying in Pasig City, Manila, close to the Mega Mall. It’s pretty hot and humid and there are afternoon storm clouds but we are yet to see the huge downpours that people talk about. 🇵🇭
