Why 127? More on that below. This coin's mission is to travel quickly from
cache to cache. And, to ask the question "Did you ever use 127 film?"
Geocaching is one of my "High Tech" hobbies. Photography with vintage
cameras is a "Low Tech" hobby that I enjoy when I can find the time.
Before the days of disposable 35 mm film cassettes (and the canister which is
so often recycled as geocaches) and after the advent of plates and sheet film,
film was supplied in rolls. The 127 format was introduced in 1912 by Kodak for
use in a "compact" camera that was a smaller alternative to cameras
using 120 rollfilm. 127 film made a comeback in the 50's and was produced by
Kodak until 1995. There is still one manufacturer, Fotokemika, which still makes
127 film in black and white and sells it under its Efke label. An interesting
history of 127 film and cameras may be found here.
I've never owned a camera that took 127 film and have never had an opportunity
to use it. The metal piece attached to the geocoin is an empty spool for 127
film.
Please log this geocoin when you find it and don't forget to mark it as dropped
when it goes back into a cache. This geocoin has an extra feature. When you
log it as found in the travelbug
section of geocaching.com, a special icon will appear in the user
stats section of your profile.
If you bring it to an event, feel free to show it around for others to discover.
But please, make sure that it leaves with another cacher.
