Retrieve It from a Cache 3/13/2010 southpawaz retrieved it from top of the mohawks Arizona   Visit Log

This was a very steep hike we climbed 580 meters vertical over 1600 meters horizontal, about a 36 percent slope. Along the way we saw quite a few Elephant Trees, which I had only seen in one other area before. The last two times that surveyors came to this peak (in 1964 and 1972) they came by helicopter, and on the summit there is a more recently built radio relay station. We could see the marks where a helicopter recently landed on the summit to service the radio equipment.

    • Looking off the north side of Mohawk
    • Looking west off of Mohawk the white area is a large sand dune formation
    • Elephant Tree (really, that's what they're called)
    • Cholla cactus and a view We had lots of trouble today getting these stuck on us. Ouch!

I went with AZcachemeister and AZgeckogirl today to climb this mountain where we found the cache and a 100 year old benchmark.

Retrieve It from a Cache 3/6/2010 southpawaz retrieved it from A.J.A.C.S. 6th Annual Campout Event Cache Arizona   Visit Log

A class on Saturday morning delayed me from getting to the event until after noon, but then a great day with friends and good food once I got there. I think I got just about the worst poker hand ever in the Poker Run, and had fun following a 7 stage multi to find the log book for the event. Plenty of pictures of the event on its page, be sure to see the ones taken by ShadowAce.

    Going camping today, woot!

No wildflowers yet in this area but woot I saw a bighorn sheep. Picture came out pretty blurry at 12x zoom, though. In the view photo maybe you can see the casinos of Laughlin, NV in the distance.

On the way to the summit of Crossman Peak near Lake Havasu City, we followed a very steep road that goes almost all the way to the top. The road is still used to provide service to radio towers near the summit. Later in the day we visited the London Bridge, which was moved here to Lake Havasu City from London and reassembled across a little canal in the lake. Once we crossed the bridge, we found this cache on an island in the lake. Photos later.

    • Warning light This is a 1/3 size replica of a famous lighthouse in Minnesota
