About This Item

The f-5 Steamy Express

This steam train "geocoin" belongs to Dick from the famous-5.  Dick likes trains very much, especially the steamy variety.  There are plenty of old steam railways still in operation in England, and the f-5 gang often visit them.  The Bluebell Railway is our local favourite, as there are several large steam trains running regularly, as well as special events like visits from Thomas The Tank Engine and the Christmas special.  The f-5 recommend you pay a visit if ever you are passing through Sussex, in South East England - see the following web link for details - http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/.

He has chuffed loads of miles and been taken to so many excellent railway stations around Europe. He feels very lucky and happy. After 4 years we retrieved him and helped him get over 10,000 miles. Thank you so much to all you Geocachers for giving him such a great time. He is now chuffing off again for a new adventure. He quite fancies seeing what trains are like in other continents. He'd love to see a Japanese bullet train...

Having set this coin on its journey a two months ago, we were pleased to see it had moved on to a train related cache in our area we have not yet found. So we had to visit it, and say hello to our TB.

Happy journey Steamy.

Puzzled over where to place this cache as Famous 5 already mentioned the Bluebell Railway as their favourite place locally. Have been close to the spot where I dropped the trackable many times whilst whizzing up and down between London to Brighton and was a fantastic opportunity to get a better view of the viaduct from ground level. It a feat of engineering and is well worth a trip to see!

Retrieve It from a Cache 10/1/2011 MARS Explorers retrieved it from The Lost Railway South East England, United Kingdom   Visit Log

2nd find of the day with Dog and other half. Was a scorching hot day (especially being October!) and bolstered our spirits having failed to find the previous cache on the trail we were walking. Was very pleased to discover the trackable left by The Famous Five. Having initially stepped straight over it's hiding place, a quick recheck of the mobile map soon got us back on the right track. Enjoyed the beautiful views over the golf course and by chance, bumped into an old work colleague who was enjoying a bike ride with their family, up to Devils Dyke for a cooling beer! Would have loved to have walked up as well but with Dog being only a 14 week pup still, his legs wouldn't make it that far there and back! Enjoying trying to think of a good place to continue it's journey :-)
