These geocoin was purchased as part of a fundraiser for the 2009 Victoria Bushfire Appeal, in response to the fires known as Black Saturday. These fires which burnt on Saturday, the 7th of February 2009, resulted in 173 deaths and 500 injuries, Australia's highest ever loss of life from a bushfire. Hence the mission for this coin.
The journey starts in New Zealand, where smoke from these fires managed to reach. New Zealand also sent a small number of fire fighting personnel.
