Number 19 of Group 4...
November 2009 after Bryce's check-up, we were informed he was in need of an Open Heart Surgery to repair his damaged Heart. When he was 6 day old he had surgery [Arterial switch], now they need to repair what years have done.
He had the Aorta valve, aorta root and the entire ascending aorta replaced. The procedure is called Bentall, where the surgery consists of replacing the Aorta, and the Aorta valve with a Composite graft of woven Dacron attached to a valve and implanting the coronary arteries in the graft..
His Surgery was done the 23rd of December. The Surgery was more intense than first planned as it required cutting the Pulmonary artery in half to reach the Aorta. They discovered a 6CM [2.5"] aneurysm on the Aorta, they knew of a aneurysm but not that large. He later required two units of blood several days after surgery. He was in the Hospital for a week depending on his ability to recover and take care of himself, he was home for New years and Christmas was New Years day.
This unique Coin was with him during his surgery as it was hid inside his socks and his stay at UW Hospital.
