About This Item

Snail Mail - Cambodia

This is a resurrected trackable with a copy tag. The original went missing in Wales in 2017 and had a keyring in the shape of a grey bunny. Now it's a keyring with a postage stamp from Cambodia showing a medieval English sailing vessel.

Dropped Off 10/9/2023 Wombatwandering placed it in Outlander - Sydney's Craigh na Dun New South Wales, Australia - .52 miles  Visit Log

Goodbye again Snail Mail - Cambodia. Since you didn’t get to see much of Australia last time I dropped you off, I thought I’d try again. This place has a connection to your owner. She wishes the magic stones would bring her Jamie so here is your chance to find Paradise! You are close to the Opera House, the Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge here. Safe travels. ❤️

Back in Sydney and caught up with my friend from London who moved home. I have not seen her for two years so she was pretty excited to be dragged along to do an Earthcache. Mrs Macquarie was the wife of Major-General Lachlan Macquarie, Governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1821. Folklore has it that she used to sit on the rock and watch for ships from Great Britain sailing into the harbour and enjoy the view. It is a stunning view.🪑

You have headed about an hour west of Sydney to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains National Park. Its a super spectacular spot and is a UNESCO World Heritage listed area. I’ve hiked and gone canyoneering many times around here in the past and have watched Mr Wombat rock climb on the Three Sisters rock formation before that was banned. The sisters’ names are Meehni (922 m), Wimlah (918 m), and Gunnedoo (906 m) but we now know that the “Dreamtime” story about the sisters was made up by a Caucasian girl and is not a story from the Gundungurra people who inhabited the area for thousands of years. 👩‍👧‍👧

Welcome to Sydney, New South Wales. It’s Australia’s second largest city and it’s most beautiful. We had one goal today - GC3E Lane Cove, the oldest cache in Australia. It’s a May 2000 cache although that seems a bit debatable to me. It’s in beautiful Lane Cove National Park and you would have thought you were miles from anywhere until people in a swan pedalo splashed past and ruined the illusion. Still, it was a lovely walk with lots of Wallabies, Eastern Water Dragons, and Cockatoos to be seen. 🦘

Still wet so just chilled around Werribee. Nothing exciting. Better start packing but no passport needed. 🛫

A wet day in Melbourne today so I kept my geocaching inside with an Earthcache at St Paul’s Cathedral. I used to change trams here everyday to go to school but I never once went inside the church. The interior is a mixture of sandstone from the Barrabool Hills and Waurn Ponds limestone, with horizontal stripes of Victorian bluestone, giving the cathedral a warm colouring. Looks quite good actually. ⛪️

Visited 10/2/2023 Wombatwandering took it to SideTracked - Lalor Victoria, Australia - 9.56 miles  Visit Log

Sidetracked caches are becoming more popular in Australia so I thought I should add to my UK tally and find some. I chose the (previously named) Epping line as a good place to hop on and hop off. Lalor was named in honour of Peter Lalor, a leader of the Eureka Stockade rebellion during the Victorian Gold Rush, and later a member of the Victorian parliament. 🚊

A zip over to North Balwyn to visit my Aunt today. Consistently among Melbourne's top 20 most exclusive postcodes, the suburb was lampooned in the 1974 song by Australian band The Skyhooks, Balwyn Calling. There is a jigidi series of caches there based on handbags that I’ve been slowly ticking off over the years. 👜

It’s the Australian Rules Football Grand Final day in Australia today. You went to Sunshine for a Grand Final lunch to watch Collingwood (The Magpies) defeat Brisbane (The Lions). My kids have not been in Australia for this before and can’t believe the hype and frenzy. “It’s nothing like this in England”. Last year, it was my team, The Geelong Cats, who won. Alas, they were not even close this year. 🏆
