Mather Field had been a major education facility for aircraft navigators with both the Air Force and Navy using the facility. In addition there were nuclear equipped B52s based here. Now it’s mainly a commercial air port for air freight.
With a large number of young, single officers attending the school here, often their first time away from home, this provided a nice “Office and Gentleman” type hunting ground for the girls around here. Our daughter was engaged to one of the students and several of her friends married students.
