Pois é! foi nesse dia, em 1143, que os reis Afonso Henriques e o seu primo Afonso VII de Leão e Castela assinaram o Tratado de Zamora. Nesse tratado, Afonso VII reconhece Afonso Henriques como rex (rei) de Portugal, reino criado no mesmo tratado.
Contudo, o rei de Portugal deveria prestar vassalagem ao rei de Leão e Castela, Imperador de toda a Hispânia, coisa que Afonso Henriques nunca fez...
Em 1189, o Papa Alexandre III aceita os pedidos de Portugal em lhe pagar vassalagem directa, através da "Bula Manifestis Probatum", o que significava a independência definitiva de Portugal...
