Lincoln de Chaine was released in Golden, Colorado in July of 2003 by MT Barnes, one of the notorious Barnes Brothers of Kansas City. Initially, this travel bug consisted of a single link from a bicycle chain. Lincoln’s ultimate goal is to journey from Colorado to the homes of the two other Barnes Brothers – Red Barnes in Charles Town, West Virginia and Cory (Gated) Barnes in Austin, Texas – and then back to MT in Colorado. Along the way, Lincoln hopes to gather additional links from some of the folks who help to move him along his way. However, his journey will not be complete until each of the three Barnes Brothers has added another link to the chain.
If you would like to add a link to the chain (preferably a clean one) you will need a bicycle chain tool and a link from a standard bicycle chain. Or you could get somebody at your friendly neighborhood bike shop to do it (probably for free if you tell them what you’re up to). It only takes a second with the right tool.
Or you can just help Lincoln along by moving him closer to his various destinations. The Barnes Brothers will be monitoring Link’s progress and when he gets within range they’re prepared to go out and pick him up from whatever cache he’s in. Thanks!

Sorry we kept this so long. Tried to drop it in our hometown in Maryland, but couldn't find the cache we were looking for! Ended up in Cacapon for a cabin weekend and found a few micros. This was the first cache we found that it fit in. That is, if we pushed it in just right. Maybe it will make it's way back to Uncle Red soon? Happy trails, Lincoln!

Picked up this, our first TB, on a camping weekend in the park. Bummer - we were in Austin in April, and are headed to WV in about six weeks. But I guess that's too long to hold it, and it was just there anyway. Thanks to Performance Bike in Rockville, MD who added a link for us (I promised I'd plug them). We'll drop it somewhere as soon as we can...

After traveling for 902 days, Lincoln de Chaine is finally with Red Barnes of Charles Town, WV. Thanks to AbbysGrammy for getting it into WV. I was thrilled that when it finally got into WV it was only 10 miles from my house. TB will go with us to KC area for family holiday gathering and a reunion with the 2 other Barnes Brothers.
