Current Goal

My purpose is to seek proof that our planet is not flat and that it rotates around the sun. I wish to do this on my way to be photographed at the Library of Alexandria, Egypt.

About This Item

Hypatia's Compass Front

Destination:
Upon arrival in Alexandria, make a picture of it at the library (the new one) and take the coin back with you. There are no safe caches near Alexandria at the time of this writing. The coin has a paper with it, folded, which can be turned inside out to reveal the second mission. The second mission is to roam the worlds capitals and visit places such as the Library of Congress, United States.

Journey:
Feel free to write (roleplay) stories about it's journey. On the journey to Alexandria the geocoin should be photographed with items or structures that proof our planets shape and orbit. First thought in my mind is a telescope, but I'm sure there are much more original ideas. Otherwise the coin is free to roam.

Backstory:
Hypatia was one of the first notable female astronomer and mathematician. She was associated with the famed Library of Alexandria, around the 4th century. Her philosophical approach to matters became a problem in a period where such views clashed with the church. This eventually became her undoing when her longtime involvement with a prominent politician clashed with the local bishop. It is unsure whether the bishop was indirectly involved with her murder when fanatics skinned her alive and eventually burned her.

Some believe that she was the first to hypothesize that the planets orbit is elliptical, she used this theory to solve problems in an earlier theory, not hers, which stated that the sun was the center of the universe. Something that almost got Galileo jailed a milennia later.
