Current Goal

This bug has been on some amazing adventures. In 2006, I obtained a grant for 50 travel bug tags so that all of my 4th graders could release a travel bug into the wild. They had to bring an object, and then write up a goal for their bug. As a class we added two explanatory paragraphs.

Unfortunately, many of the bugs went missing pretty quickly. The students knew to expect this, so we expressed sadness at those that were lost, but continued watching those that kept traveling.

At one point, I decided to recycle some that I was notified of that were not found in caches or that the cache itself had disappeared. This bug was one of those, so I erased all of its logs.I was going to release something new, but for some reason or another, this one was never used.

Last year (2015), almost a decade later, I get a box at school. It actually was addressed to "Any 4th Grade Classroom," so as team leader I opened it. Inside was the long lost travel bug and a note that simply read "Found in the Colorado Rocky Mountains near Tin Cup." No return address or signature to let me know who the kind geocacher was that saw fit to return the bug to its place of birth.

I couldn't decide what to do with the bug, and placed it back in the box and took it home to contemplate. It got packed in some geocaching things in a box and I forgot about it.....until today....July 25, 2016. I'm going to take it to school this year and share it with my new 2nd graders. We'll take photos, I'll let them decide what it's new mission will be, and it will travel once again.

THANK YOU again, kind geocacher. I hope you have this on your watchlist!
