About This Item

Happy 100th Anniversary Girl Guides of Canada! Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada enables girls to be confident, resourceful, courageous and to make a difference in the world. On April 10 (100th day of the year) during the years 2010 through 2012 our World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts will have activities themed to Plant, Grow and Share. In April 2010 we launch our Geocoin in hopes that our Units will take part in a unique initiative “planting” these treasures for others to seek, hide and move all over the world.

This coin has been started by the 1st Saskatoon Trex Unit ---- Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

What is Trex? Trex is part of Girl Guides of Canada. It is an "extraordinary option" for girls aged 12-18. (No, it's not t-rex as in the dinosaur!) Girls in Trex focus on camping, outdoors, and adventure activities. Backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking, scuba diving, and cross-country skiing are just some of the things a girl in Trex might do.

Mrs Grizzly very kindly passed this coin onto us as I (Nik) am a Leader with 14th Loughborough Guides. I'll take it to Guides on Monday to show them. We're having lots of fun with Centenary activities and are looking forward to renewing our Promises on 20:10 20/10/2010!

Edited to add: sorry we've not moved this coin on yet, I keep forgetting to show it to the Guides! However it did travel to our Vision 20:10 20/10 2010 event last night, here's a photo!

Mrs Grizzly was very excited to find this coin. She is a Brownie Guider in Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. Brownies restart after the summer holidays in early September so she will take the coin to show her pack and will then try to pass on to another Guiding geocacher so she can show her girls the coin. In July we had a guiding bear TB which we both showed our girls and was able to tell them a bit about geocaching.

Shame the UK Guide Association hasn't produced a coin for us!

Taken from Geocache at Major Oak (Sherwood Forest). Will be dropping it off in a cache near our home a bit further south (South Derbyshire) shortly so that it can continue its long journey around the world!
