To travel far and wide, then meet back with the other MN Symbols TB's at GeoCoinFest 2011!
Welcome to GeoCoinFest 2010, being held in Minnesota!
To do my part, I purchased these GCF2010 Cachekinz in support, and now I'm releasing them all at GeoCoinFest 2010! I decided each of these trackables should represent some symbol of Minnesota - something unique or important to our state.
The first in this series is the Darwin Twine Ball. This isn't any old ball of twine, this is the World's Largest Ball of Twine Created by One Man! It's located in the city of Darwin, MN (population 276 in the 2000 census).
Francis A. Johnson started creating the twine ball in March of 1950, and spent 39 years creating what you see today, displayed proudly in the center of the city (inside a Pagoda), right in front of the Twine Ball Museum.
The 2nd weekend in August every year, the city celebrates Twine Ball Days. Believe me, I was there this year!
Weird Al Yankovic has even played homage to this town, with a song "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota"
What you see is a miniature version of the twine ball. Please be careful with it, since the item itself is pretty fragile (hence the protective case).
Thank you for your effort in moving this along quickly, so it can see as many caches as possible!
