From the year 1000, the castle of Falaise is robust one constructed stone fortress by 1st Dukes de Normandie. After the conquest of England in 1066, the descendants of Guillaume make build in the XIIth century, on the foundations of the family castle, two typically English-Norman square donjons.
These constructions testify of the highlight of Dukes de Normandie and are the expression the most finished and the best the preserved in France, of these donjons-palace, impregnable fortresses of Dukes-kings.
