Southern New England.
Activated on New Year's Day, 2011. This coin was sent with my daughter when she stiudied abroad in Ecuador in spring 2011 and was released in a cache in Quito. Its original mission was to represent our home state of Rhode Island as it navigates from cache to cache around the world. But seeing as how it is now so close to home, let's bring it to southern New England.
A Little Rhody 2010 Geocoin, gold finish. Little Rhody geocoins have been produced annually since 2008. Little Rhody is the nickname for Rhode Island, the smallest of the 50 United States. It is also known as the Ocean State, hence the theme of ocean-related coins. The 2008 edition was a quahog, which is a shellfish. The 2009 edition was a horseshoe crab. The 2010 edition -- the one being circulated here -- is a fluke, undoubtedly one of the smallest coins made. The 2011 edition will be a starfish.
